Sophie Hornick, MS, CCLS

As a 5-year-old, I asked for a white board for my birthday to teach my imaginary students. From there, my passion for working with kids only grew and I found myself being drawn to the helping professions. While I thought I wanted to teach, I was introduced to the field of Child Life by one of my college mentors and I immediately knew that this was what I was meant to be doing.

Throughout my career, I have been inspired by the strength of so many families. The ability to build resilience continues to amaze me. One of my favorite parts of this job is to watch a child realize their own capacity to cope and conquer something that may have seemed impossible. It is a privilege and an honor to be let into a family’s story in what may be some of their most vulnerable moments.

I believe that prioritizing the human aspect of healthcare is essential in empowering families and providing quality, family-centered and compassionate care. Thank you for choosing to learn more about Ready, Set, Cope!

“When it comes to working with children, Sophie has a gift. Sophie understands the unique privilege it is to provide care to a young patient and their family.

To say Sophie has “a way” with children is an understatement; she is kind, empathetic and extremely patient with children. Sophie understands the comprehensive needs associated with the care of the pediatric patient and uses her clinical acumen to appropriately assess a child and anticipate their needs.

As a mother and experienced nurse, I was always impressed with the way she advocated for and treated her patients and families. The child and parents were always more at ease when Sophie was involved in their care.”
